Lottery winner claims million dollar prize wearing a ‘Scream’ mask

I guess you could say he made a killing with his winning ticket.

In Jamaica, a lucky bettor who won US$1.1 million (A$1.55 million) claimed his prize while wearing a white cape, black gloves, and the mask from the 1996 horror film Scream.

The man, only identified as A. Campbell, won last November but couldn’t muster up the courage to get his cheque. In fact, he started feeling sick, unsure of what to do with that much money.

“It took him 54 days to come forward and we started to get nervous, but we forgive him,” said the lottery company. “After all, we’d probably feel queasy too after realizing we won!”

But, once he did come forward, he made quite the impression, showing up in the horror costume (sans the murder weapon) and even posing with his winnings.

“…I think they opt to do it to keep themselves safe,” said a lottery representative. “We are not going to tell them not to do that, because their safety is of paramount importance to us as well.”

As for what he plans to do with the money? Campbell said he’ll expand his small business, as well as buy a nice house.

This isn’t the first time a lottery winner has claimed a prize in a disguise to protect his or her identity. Also in Jamaica, a woman showed up last year wearing a winking smiley face emoji after winning the Super Lotto jackpot.
