A photograph has surfaced on social media showing members of three of the most successful rock bands of the last 40 years having an epic jam.
This Frankenstein of rock ‘n’ roll featured guitarist Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden, Alcatrazz guitarist Howie Simon, Metallica’s Robert Trujillo on bass, The Foo Fighters’ drummer Taylor Hawkins and multi-instrumentalist Richie Kotzen known for his participation in Mr Big.

Sometimes at parties I jam with the bass player from Metallica, the drummer from the Foo Fighters, the guitarist from Iron Maiden, and my friend Richie. I hope I'm not name dropping! Such a fun time – they always throw the best parties! #Party #Birthday #Guitar #Jamming #Guitarists #RockStars #Metallica #FooFighters#IronMaiden #AndMe #RichieKotzen #Music #Rock #RockNRoll #JamSession #BestTime #Drinks
The reunion, which is practically a wet dream for many heavy metal fans, was posted by Simon on his Instagram account last week, with the caption:
“Sometimes at parties I jam with the bass player from Metallica, the drummer from the Foo Fighters, the guitarist from Iron Maiden, and my friend Richie. I hope I’m not name dropping! Such a fun time – they always throw the best parties!”
Simon is definitively no stranger to supergroups, having been part of Alcatrazz, a metal band that featured guitar prodigies Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Vai.
Put together, the members of this jamming party have 22 Grammy awards, 56 nominations and have sold together over 250 million records. Not too shabby eh?
Although it’s unlikely that we’ll ever see this exact lineup live, Metallica, Foo Fighters and Iron Maiden will all tour the world in 2019, so there is a good chance you can watch these geniuses in action this year.
