Pornhub give $25,000 grant to scientists to study porn

But how will they work if it’s NSFW?

Adult entertainment company Pornhub has granted US$25,000 (AUS$35,000) to three scientists who will research into the healthy ways consumers should interact with pornography.

The funding was made available through the Pornhub Sexual Wellness Center Grant (yes, it’s a real thing), which was launched last March. University of Kansas psychology professor Omri Gillath, Ph.D., beat out thousands of other applicants (hopefully none of whom had to use a casting couch) to win the grant.

Gillath, who previously focused his research on interpersonal relationships, will work with Dr. Ateret Gewirtz-Meydan and doctoral candidate Katie Adams to see the good and bad consequences effects of porn on consumers.

“Some of what Pornhub is trying to do now is making sure that it’s treating seriously its role in society,” Gillath told Inverse. “It’s entertainment, sure, it’s a source of arousal, of course. But it’s also an educational source and we need to be serious about that as well.”

The trio (or threesome in porno lingo, if you will) are the first ever scientists to study porn with money from a porn site.
