Little Caesars accused of using frozen pizzas in confusing video

“We’re just as curious as you,” tweeted frozen pizza company DiGiorno.

An investigation has been undertaken after a video taken at a Little Caesars suggested that the fast-food chain might be taking some shortcuts with its menu.

The video posted by Twitter user ‘@vinandwesson’ was retweeted by model Chrissy Teigen, and quickly went viral. It shows a shopping trolley adjacent to the store’s cash register stuffed with boxes of DiGiorno frozen pizzas.

The image undoubtedly looks like the pizzas were about to be unpacked, loaded into the ovens, and sold to unsuspecting customers. Lots of people online believed that was exactly what was happening.

It led to plenty of confusion, as loyal customers began to question every purchase they had ever made at the restaurant. Everyone had jokes too – including DiGiorno.

I mean, what would you think if you saw a trolley full of frozen nuggets from Woolworths inside your local McDonald’s?

But if you’re anything like me, you’d complain, then immediately proceed to eat them anyway.

A spokesperson for Little Caesars told PEOPLE, however, has said that it was all just a big misunderstanding:

“Of course, Little Caesars only serves freshly baked pizzas made from fresh dough. We think this is probably just a funny coincidence, but we are investigating.”

A swift investigation proved exactly that. It turns out that the person with the trolley was a K-mart employee looking for a place to store the DiGiorno pizzas after customer complaints.

“K-Mart received a few complaints from customers about having purchased expired DiGiorno pizzas from that location, and because it was so closed to closing time, the K-Mart manager directed his employee to temporarily store them in a cooler adjacent to the Little Caesars location for disposal in the morning.”

So Little Caesars wasn’t using the frozen pizzas after all – at least, not on this occasion.
