It was a monumental day when Saturday Night Live announced that Nora, aka Awkwafina, would be hosting.
Why was this such a big deal? It has been a whopping 18 years since the last Asian-American had been a host on SNL and that was Lucy Liu.
Naturally, when Awkwafina did her monologue, she gave a shoutout and much-appreciated thanks to her idol who paved the way for other Asian-American to follow in her footsteps.
The Crazy Rich Asians star, then, recounted a story of how one day she dreamed of hosting the variety show and, as an 11-year-old, had even waited outside the building to try and witness the moment Lucy Liu hosted SNL.
