“I felt like I had to apologise”: Naomi Osaka opens up about the heartbreaking U.S Open final

Naomi Osaka is a 20-year old from Japan who recently won the U.S Open against the legendary Serena Williams.

However, you’d be forgiven for not knowing this given her win was sadly overshadowed by the Williams’ behaviour in the final.

The American lost her temper at umpire Ramos after he handed down a game penalty to the champ for coaching and abuse – at one point even calling him a “liar” and a “thief”.

After Osaka went on to close out the match 6-2, 6-4 she broke down as she embraced Williams at the net.

Her reaction had the tennis world wondering why. Was she gutted at the New York crowd’s booing? Tears of joy? Or overcome with mixed emotions after defeating her idol?

She appeared on NBC News to clear it up, and we promise you you’ll love her even more after watching it.
