This simple but clever illusion makes food look like they have pixels

Japanese art director Yuni Yoshida has found a unique way to pixelate images. Not with a computer, but with a knife.

In her series, entitled Pixelated, she makes viewers look twice by rendering food in their natural form. Using various ingredients, she manually pixelates fruits and even a burger by cutting hundreds of tiny organic cubes then arranging them.

The result is something that reflects her previous works in advertising, wherein she uses the surreal to catch everyone’s attention.

“I want people to think, ‘Wait, something is different’, and become inspired,” Yuni said. “That is why I produce something with an immediate visual hook for attention. Yet, I also want it to inspire people to take another closer look.”
