Seriously though, is this a stitch-up?
Spanish fashion house Balenciaga recently released their Fall 18 catalogue and it appears that the theme for the upcoming season is “two is better than one”.
Specifically, they have released a garment called the “T-shirt Shirt” which is, um, a t-shirt with a shirt stitched to it – or possibly the other way around?
The product description says it has “Two wearing options: wear the short sleeves shirt with front drape effect or the long sleeves shirt with back drape effect”.
So, either you’ve got a bib, or a cape-look going on. Sounds a tad on the ridiculous side, doesn’t it?
Well, yes, but then you are getting two shirts for the price of one, so – WAIT, IT COSTS HOW MUCH?
Balenciaga, you cheeky, cheeky people – the company have whacked a price tag on the T-shirt Shirt of $1705.
That’s more than two crap cars, let alone a horrible, pseudo-double garment.
Understandably, some people are suggesting the whole thing is just a joke.
However, Balenciaga didn’t just put one weird-looking double shirt in this catalogue – nope, there are double the doubles, with a second garment called the Double Shirt.
What’s more, because it’s clearly for more formal occasions – no t-shirt on this bad boy – it’s going for $1950!
Obviously, this one also has “Two wearing options: wear the short sleeves shirt with front drape effect or the long sleeves shirt with back drape effect”.
There’s also another photo of the same model wearing the basically-$2000-monstrosity in the catalogue – while promoting an otherwise pretty bog-standard looking parka – which suggests that Balenciaga genuinely believe they’ve got a good thing going on here.
For the record, the parka is going for $3125, which also tends to suggest the $1705 asking price on the T-shirt Shirt and $1950 for the Double Shirt are legitimate as well.
If you’re keen to get your hands on the most ridiculous fashion statement of the season, Balenciaga are currently taking pre-orders, with shipping set for June 30.
Who knows, it could be the next big fashion trend – much like long-sleeve shirts over short-sleeve shirts over long-sleeve shirts.
