KFC’s new ad imagines their fried chicken as badass explosions

KFC has had some pretty memorable (not to mention weird) ad campaigns in the past. But their latest one has to be – I guess you could say – the most explosive.

In their ad campaign for the company’s Hot & Spicy Chicken, ad agency Ogilvy & Mather Hong Kong digitally manipulated the food item into fiery explosions.

At first, you’d think you’re looking at a race car’s exhaust, a rocket’s smoke, or a detonation from an action movie. But really, they’re all just well-placed, well Photoshopped photos of chicken!

In an interview with Bored Panda, Ogilvy & Mather’s creative director John Koay explained how the idea for the campaign came about.

“Well, we were sitting at our desks one night eating KFC, thinking about how could we show the hot sensation without showing the cliché of people with tears rolling down their eyes or tongues sticking out,” he said.

“So we looked at the product more closely then finally realized the fried chicken also looked like something else…”

He added that the retouchers at Illusion CGI Bangkok really did a great job at disguising the chicken.

“These guys photographed the chicken with careful lighting and together we worked on how to make fried chicken look like detailed explosions. It was hard but it was fun. We studied a lot of explosions… lots!”

KFC’s previous ad campaigns involved a Colonel Sanders-led romance novel, a finger lickin’ good phone charger, and fried chicken scented candle, among many others.
