Hundreds had their assault rifles blessed in vow to protect US gun laws

Every day we stray further from God’s light.

In the Pocono Mountains, 100 miles (160 km) north of Philadelphia, around 250 couples toting unloaded AR-15 assault rifles had their marriages blessed and their guns celebrated.

Many of the worshippers wore crowns, with some made from bullets. The church officials, meanwhile, were dressed in white and pink garments to match their rifles, or what they fondly called ‘rods of iron’.

Church-goers with guns

The ceremony, which was planned before the Parkland, Florida shooting that left 17 people dead, was led by Reverend Hyung Jin ‘Sean’ Moon, the leader of the church.

According to Moon, the staff at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School “should have been armed” at the time of the incident. He echoes the same sentiment shared by President Donald Trump.

“Each of us is called to use the power of the ‘rod of iron’ not to arm or oppress as has been done in satanic kingdoms of this world, but to protect God’s children,” Moon said.

“If the football coach who rushed into the building to defend students from the shooter with his own body had been allowed to carry a firearm, many lives, including his own, could have been saved.”

In the weeks since the massacre, students from the school, as well as anti-gun advocates have called on Trump to enforce stricter gun ownership laws.

Trump has responded by saying he’s willing to push for stricter background checks and to raise the age requirement to buy a rifle to 21. Oh, and let’s nor forget the part where he wants to turn teachers into cops.

“If you had a teacher who was adept with the firearm, they could end the attack very quickly,” the President said last week.

“This would be obviously only for people who were very adept at handling a gun, and it would be, it’s called concealed carry, where a teacher would have a concealed gun on them. They’d go for special training and they would be there and you would no longer have a gun-free zone.”
