In Montreal, a local artist sculpted a Delorean (it kind of looks like a Toyota, really) out of snow right on the street. The result was so realistic, cops pulled over believing it was a real illegally parked car. Score: art – 1, the police – 0.
Canadian artist Simon Laprise sculpted an amazing winter installation in a snow removal zone, making the life-size piece the most irresistible police bait. In a devilish touch of a realism, he added an actual windshield wiper he found lying on the ground.
Of course, the cops had to stop to investigate. How couldn’t they? The memorable moment was captured on camera and has been shared thousands of times now on social media.
“It was a beautiful day,” Laprise said in an interview with VICE. “So I decided to do something out of the mountain of snow, to do a little joke to the snow guys, and have fun sculpting a car. It’s not my first one, just the first I do in the street on snow removal day.
“To me snow is a great free material to sculpt anything out of.”
The creative said he’d been bombed by loads of messages on social media since the photos went viral, and hundreds of pics are popping all over the net of people who had stopped by that night to take a snap with his creation.
“I though the tickets was hilarious,” said Laprise. “But when I saw the cops pictures on internet the next day, it was even better.”
The majestic prank turned out to be an ephemeral one, as it was snowplowed the following morning. Interestingly enough, the curious officer who stopped to investigate did leave a note. It says in French, “You made our night!!!”
Now isn’t that cool?
