Chelsey Amer, a blogger and dietician, has claimed that a slice of pizza is healthier than a bowl of sugary cereal with milk.
“You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories,” she said. “However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”
Studies have shown that many cereals are nothing more than clumps of sugar. For instance, brands like Kellogg’s Honey Smacks and Malt-O-Meal Golden Puffs contain added sweeteners that’s a third of the amount of sugar a child should be consuming in an entire day.
“Many cereals marketed for breakfast contain as much sugar as a candy bar,” Amer told MUNCHIES.
However, since most people usually eat more than a slice of pizza in one sitting, Amer doesn’t advise making Pizza Hut your breakfast staple too. Rather, try to choose cereals that are high in fiber and low on sugar.
“Also, 100 percent whole grains should be the first ingredient,” she said. “Then, pair your cereal with a good source of protein, such as Greek yogurt, milk, or a small handful of nuts and seeds, and sprinkle some berries on top for added fiber, vitamins and minerals.”
And then maybe treat yourself to pizza for breakfast on those Saturdays you wake up completely hungover.
