This room in Australia is filled with 100 giant skulls

Currently at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in Australia, you can find an installation that you might say is… to die for.

From 15 December 2017, the inaugural NGV Triennial will feature the works of over 100 contemporary artists and designer from 32 countries. One work presented in the event is Australian hyperrealist sculptor Ron Mueck’s Mass.

His largest installation to date, Mass features 100 fibre glass and resin skulls piled up in a room adorned with 17th and 18th century paintings.

It’s reminiscent of the Parisian catacombs, and though it wasn’t built hundreds of years ago like its French counterpart, it did take two long weeks to arrange using an electric crane.

Surrounded by an imposing room filled with human heads, visitors here can’t help but reflect about life and mortality.

The NGV Triennial will run until 18 April 2018 and is a free exhibition.
