Former Aussie Prime Minister Tony Abbott has attempted to justify how he unfathomably decided to remain absent during the House of Representatives’ vote on same-sex marriage.

While Australian Parliament made history in allowing for marriage equality, Abbott failed to make an appearance, angering many – which happens to be the opposite impact of his usual absences.
Much of the public frustration over his decision arose out of Abbott having pushed for the plebiscite himself.
Yet the 60-year-old appeared on Sky News’ Paul Murray Live in a bid to help people understand his predicament.
Though Abbott has long been a vocal opponent of same-sex marriage, 75% of those in his electorate who returned their postal votes supported marriage equality.
