And no, he will not be wearing a giant yellow suit.
Legendary Pictures has announced that Ryan Reynolds has signed on to be the voice and motion-capture actor behind the iconic anime character in the upcoming live-action film Detective Pikachu.
The highly-anticipated film will be about Detective Pikachu, who is described as “a self-styled investigator who is good at finding things.”
Instead of fighting other Pokemon, he’ll be tasked to solve a case involving the disappearance of Justice Smith’s character’s father. Along the way, a journalist portrayed by Kathryn Newton will join their party and help in figuring out the mystery.
Goosebumps director Rob Letterman will be helming the project, while Gravity Falls creator Alex Hirsch and Guardians of the Galaxy co-screenwriter Nicole Perlman have written the latest draft of the script.
Filming will begin in January 2018 in London. A release date has yet to be announced.
