Women cover themselves in glitter to promote body positivity (NSFW)

Because there’s nothing more beautiful than women empowering other women, a group of Aussie women have decided to strip off, douse themselves with glitter, to do just that.

We’re sure you’re wondering, why glitter? Well, according to the group’s founder Roseanna Mae, “we cover ourselves in glitter because glitter is so striking, beautiful, and really gets the girls wanting to be involved.”

She adds: “It is a way to be naked, without being entirely naked.”

Photographs of the women were taken and posted to Instagram as a part of their #PositivelyGlittered project.

Who can go past a classic? @nocturne_images took this beloved favourite that time we took glitter to the beach! Rain be damned! Funnily enough, the rain helped keep the glitter damp and stay on our skin better. Tap for tags ? #positivelyglittered ✨ Edit: almost forgot it's #Sundaybumday !!

The project aims to show “real people with real bodies,” and includes “a bunch of normal, everyday girls” who get together to celebrate their bodies “as they are.”

Covered in body glitter from head to toe, the women show off their gorgeous bodies, in all shapes and sizes – and the results are clearly stunning.

Mae says they aim to show diversity and, through the Instagram page, they hope to prove that “every body is a good body.”

For those involved, the glitter shoot means something different to each woman.

“Some girls have body image issues, and this is such a fantastic way to aid in the journey of accepting yourself, others have personal trauma that the glitter is a step in the direction of feeling comfortable in themselves again,” Mae says.

“Some of us enjoy being naked and all glittered up with friends because it’s a way of bringing up our sisters and helping each other to see the beauty in all of us.”

Unfortunately for the group, Instagram’s community rules do not allow nudity. Any photos including, “genitals, and close-ups of fully-nude buttocks” are prohibited on the platform.

Some photos of nipples are also banned, but for the #PositivelyGlittered project, this is a risk they have to take.

“There is absolutely nothing offensive about a female nipple or pubic hair, and yet we have to make sure it’s unseen,” says Mae. “Even then, there’s a slight fear that the photos will be removed (and they’ve been known to) due to nudity.”

How gosh darn cute are these two? We get up to some fun shenanigans while we glitter, that's for sure! Two weeks til the next glitter!! How exciting! We've just ordered all our glitter and crowns. It's getting exciting! ? by @contraryphoto with @the_love_of_a and @blueskieslingerie

Mae says that each woman featured in the shoots has her own needs in terms of anonymity and censorship. “Some will not post their face at all, and others are happy to have their face showing.”

For anyone wanting to get involved, the glitter shoots are open to the public and the organisers want as many women as possible to join in. So, better go and get some glitter, ladies.

@bella.shameless knows how it's done!! This beauty will be joining us on our next glitter adventure too, who's excited?! #positivelyglittered ? by @nocturne_images
