In the latest WTF moment in this new Trump world, a Republican House candidate for Montana, Greg Gianforte, has allegedly body-slammed Guardian reporter, Ben Jacobs, after he asked a seemingly innocuous question about the breaking CBO score on the Republican healthcare plan.
The incredible audio from the incident captures the moment when Jacobs claims he was assaulted by Gianforte, his glasses shattered in the process.
“He took me to the ground,” Jacobs told The Guardian. “This is the strangest thing that has ever happened to me in reporting on politics.”
Tensions have been running high on the eve of this special election to fill a congressional seat vacated by a member of the Trump administration. But if proven true, this story is remarkable. And it’s now been confirmed that the Gallatin County sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.
Gianforte has just released a statement, giving his side of the story.
But, unsurprisingly, Twitter has blown up in reaction.
Gianforte is very wealthy — I hope @Bencjacobs sues the hell out of him.

Of note: Ben Jacobs broke last month that Gianforte has financial ties to US-sanctioned Russian companies.https://t.co/FeAmiMg9pY

@Bencjacobs is a great reporter and he's about 100 pounds soaking wet.
Just for context when a candidate suggests Ben was "aggressive."
