In her series The Punderful World of Cats, designer Katie Ruby Miller imagines pop culture through the eyes of a pun-loving crazy cat lady.
Her illustrations feature characters from famous films and books, as well as real-life people, in the form of adorable felines. Most, if not all of her works, also include cat puns such as ‘Hairy Potter and the Philosofur’s Stone’ and ‘The Little Purrmaid’.
In an interview with My Modern Met, Miller said that she started the series as a form of ‘escapism’ after coming home from her work at a greeting cards studio.
“Initially I posted photographs of my doodles straight from my sketchbook onto Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter,” she said. “Now that I am a freelance Illustrator, I ensure that once a week (if possible) I take the time to work on a new pun, and fully render in color.”
Time for Pun 5 of the 12 puns of Christmas. Its Frozen, a film that everyone has gone nuts for, but I still have yet to see. Maybe I'll brave it and watch it on Christmas Day as it is on BBC1. Or maybe i'll be in a food coma and passed out on the sofa with a cat on my lap… either sounds painless! www.katierubyillustration.com #cat #pun #christmas #frozen #thepunderfulworldofcats #illustration
Miller first sketches her drawings then adds colour and texture in her computer. The great thing about this is that she’s made some pages available to download for free so you too can colour your own puntastic kittens!
We're half way there, with Pun 6 of the 12 Puns of Christmas, and its another favourite! Who thought that the booby traps set up by Kevin in Home Alone could be beaten in a second film, but my gosh, he went there. But seriously, who manages to lose their child a second time…. www.katierubyillustration.com #cat #pun #christmas #homealone #homealone2 #newyork #thepunderfulworldofcats
