Star Wars reveals title and release date of next movie

Star Wars fanatics have woken up to some pretty great news.

On the back of the raging success of Rogue One, Lucasfilms has given fans a glimpse into the next instalment.

Episode VIII will be called The Last Jedi and is scheduled for release December 15, 2017 (which probably means December 16 in Australia).

A statement released on its official page read:

We have the greatest fans in this or any other galaxy. In appreciation of the fans, we wanted them to be the first to know the title of the next chapter in the Skywalker saga: STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.

THE LAST JEDI is written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is scheduled for release December 15, 2017.

We also know it will be directed by Rian Johnson and will follow the final chapter of Luke Skywalker’s order.

Filming started in February last year and will see the return of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis as well as the addition of Benicio del Toro, Laura Dern, and Kelly Marie Tran to the main cast.
