Company makes 500 copies of discontinued cup just for autistic boy

Marc Carter only wanted one replacement sippy cup for his autistic son, Ben. But instead, he got a lifetime supply.

The loving dad recently took to Twitter to ask for help in finding an already discontinued cup for his 14-year-old son. As it turns out, Ben has been using the same cup since he was a baby, and wouldn’t agree to using other models. In fact, he’d been hospitalised twice already for dehydration as a result of his preference.

With Ben’s old sippy cup quickly disintegrating, Marc had to find a new one fast. He enlisted the help of social media to find a replacement, perhaps tucked away in a cupboard or a basement somewhere, anywhere.

Here’s where it gets better.

The campaign, #CupForBen, eventually caught the attention of the cup’s manufacturer Tommee Tippie. They searched through their offices in the US, Australia, France, and Hong Kong – but to no avail. So instead, they found the original mold in a Chinese factory and produced 500 pieces just for the kid.

“We are delighted to confirm that we are able to start production on a run of the original cup, ensuring that Ben has a lifetime supply and that his family won’t ever have to worry about finding another cup,” the company said.

In a video message, Marc expressed his joy and gratitude to everyone who helped make this happen. “You’ve been incredible,” he said. “We have more cups than we could have dreamt of.”
