Artist shuts down sexists by turning their comments into art

In her series Handle with Care, artist Rora Blue highlights sexism by turning hurtful and demeaning words uttered to women into artworks.

The project features sexist comments photographed in the context they’re in. For instance, one image shows a woman getting a haircut, with the caption, “Why did you cut your hair? Boys like it better long.”

It hopes to dissuade people from using language that pigeonholes others into the person they’re not. “The photos aim to capture modern day sexism and some of the pressure that women face in society today,” she said.

Rora added that these lines were either stuff actually said to her or to other women. She encourages everyone to post their own experiences on the comments section of her Instagram page.

Some of the entries her followers sent in include, “You were drunk, what did you expect,” “You hit like a girl,” and “You must have made him think you wanted it.”

Handle With Care This photo is part of a two part photo series that explores sexist phrases that I have been asked at different points in my life. I wanted to represent some of the sexism and the pressure to conform to gender roles that women face in society. I know this is a bit out of the ordinary from what I usually post, I would love to hear your thoughts and if you have any interest in seeing part 2♥️
