We speak to the renowned chef who invented the craziest milkshakes of all time!

If you haven’t heard of Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beers, you’ve been missing out (big time). A couple of weeks ago this NYC landmark made headlines with their phenomenal milkshakes, piled high with sweet treats.

Shakes are taken seriously here, with glasses filled with candies, caramel apples, chocolates, and even cookies. And yes, we are in love.

We couldn’t get enough of these shakes (and neither could you), so we spoke to the Black Tap genius Joe Isidori about his sensational creations.

Tell us a little more about Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer. Who is behind the restaurant, what do you offer?

‘We opened Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beers in early March 2015, serving up traditional and innovative takes on the all-American burger, including the “Steak au Poivre” burger with peppercorn sauce, “The Spicy Mexican”, with chorizo and pickled jalapeno and “The Pizza Burger”, with a thick slice of fresh mozzarella, shaved parmesan and tomato sauce – all made with high quality Pat LaFrieda beef. Black Tap is a casual, luncheonette style establishment with a wide array of traditional and crazy milkshakes on offer in addition to an extensive selection of craft beers on tap’.

Your milkshakes are crazy good. How did you come up with the idea to serve these extreme treats?

‘My wife! One day she wanted a cotton candy milkshake, so I made it for her and our new menu item was born!’

What flavours are on offer? What are some of the more popular flavours?

‘The staple crazy shakes you’ll always find are Cotton Candy, The Cookie Shake, and Sweet ‘n’ Salty. The Cotton Candy shake is the most popular and definitely the most colourful’.

Are you surprised by how popular your shakes have become? They’re going viral right now!

‘We never expected the milkshakes to reach the popularity they have but we’re not surprised! We love them and we’re glad everyone else does too’.

Lastly, we want to know if a single person has finished one of your shakes (or is it a sharing affair?).

‘Yes! Some customers have definitely consumed a whole shake on their own, but more frequently guests will end up sharing, it does come with two straws after all!’
