Aussie bookshop delivers blind dates with books!

If Elizabeth’s Bookshop teaches us one thing, it’s to never judge a book by its cover. This WA and NSW-based bookstore has created a concept called ‘Blind date with a book’, which sells books wrapped up in paper, with only a few vague descriptions scribbled onto the front.

‘A lot of people who come into our store don’t know what they want to buy so they just browse or ask for a recommendation’, says Ryan, an Elizabeth’s Bookshop employee at the Sydney store.

‘One of our staff members thought it would be a good idea to set up a kind of lucky-dip table where you get to pick a book at random. I was really skeptical that it wouldn’t work at all, but it’s been really successful. It’s actually a really good promotional tool for our stores’.

No longer will you restrict yourself to a particular genre, or, judge a book by its cover — this is a terrific way to discover new authors, too.

‘Blind date with a book’ is not just for Aussies either, anyone can buy a book on the website, here.’
