We speak to the kind-hearted human who gave Joker the puppy a home

We were smitten at first sight when we first saw Joker online. With his fluffy coat and adorable Joker-esque markings, we know exactly why he broke Reddit! We’ve had a bunch of questions come in from you about Joker, so we spoke to the kind-hearted human who adopted him from the Humane Society in Tampa Bay, Kevin.

How did you come across Joker? Were you looking to adopt a dog or did you see him online first and fall in love?

‘My daughter and I have been looking for a pup over the last several weeks. We were specifically looking on the Humane Society of Tampa Bay website because we wanted to save a dog.

‘I rushed in about 4 weeks ago when I saw a similar Australian Shepherd mix on the website. I was there 20 minutes before they opened and was too late. He was adopted by the second person in line. Tampa Bay Humane Society is a popular place! We were frustrated but still committed to the cause. During Christmas

‘During Christmas Break we checked the site every day. The day he popped up on the website we had to have been one of the first people to see him. We live at least 25 minutes away so we knew we had to hurry. It was love at first sight for both of us. Suffice it to say, there were a few ‘land speed’ records set that day. It wasn’t until after meeting Joker that we knew how lucky we were that we didn’t get to adopt the first pup. It was meant to be’.

Tell us about the moment you first met Joker! What’s his personality like?

‘When they let us socialize with Joker he first came up and immediately bonded with my daughter and then with me. He is not a shy dog and loves attention. In short, he lives up to the Joker name’.

Joker’s become a bit of a star since he popped up online. Are you surprised by how popular he is?

‘After we brought him home and I posted pictures on Facebook about our new addition to the family, my younger brother immediately notified me that Joker had basically ‘broken’ Reddit with so many views. The next news I got from a coworker informed us that he was also very famous on Tumblr. It only grew from there. There were several news stories on the internet about the Joker dog. The humane society called us the next day and informed us that the local news station wanted to bring us on

‘The humane society called us the next day and informed us that the local news station wanted to bring us on air. We graciously accepted and were on the morning news the next morning. Joker’s popularity is still growing and we have an interview planned with the Tampa Bay Times. My daughter and I were both shocked by how quickly he became so popular. We have been to the local Petsmart twice since we adopted him and several people have approached us and called him by name. Anyone who sees him notices his striking appearance/markings. Although we are excited about the notoriety, we are more focused on raising him right and seeing that he is happy’.

Joker’s already been on TV and has his own Instagram account, what’s next for him?

‘House breaking is at the top of the list!!! In all seriousness, we don’t want to hide him from the world. We feel blessed to have him in our home but we also appreciate that he has the ability to bring joy to so many others with pictures and updates on his life. We intend to provide this to anyone that is interested via his Instagram account, @officialjokerdog and any other venues that end up reaching his fans. With all the commotion over his Joker likeness, it would be great to see him gain access to the Batman franchise in whatever capacity he can. We aren’t holding our breath on this and even if he never sees time behind a camera, we couldn’t be happier with the choice we made’.

Aww, we want to cuddle Joker! Be sure to follow Joker on Instagram to see what this gorgeous pup gets up to in the coming weeks and months. And support your local humane society by clicking here.
