Can someone explain why this beautiful park in Korea is full of penises? (NSFW)

Venture out of the city and to a small town called Sinnam in Gangwon Province on South Korea’s east coast. Here you’ll find the serene and picturesque Haesindang Park. This park offers beautiful views, relaxing surroundings and penises. Plenty and plenty of penises.

Korean artists installed these penis structures for ‘joy, spirituality and sexuality’. You’ll find many phallic symbols here and many selfie opportunities that will look great as Facebook profile pics (just sayin’). There’s a small Folk Museum attached to the park that showcases penis-related art through the ages, too (probably not the museum to take Grandma to).

You really want to know why this beautiful park is full of penises, right? Legend has it after a virgin died in a storm, fishermen were unable to fish anymore, so they began to build giant penises to appease her spirit. Because that’s what you do when a virgin dies, didn’t you know? Anyway, apparently building these phallic symbols appeased the gods and the villagers were able to fish again. So don’t know the whole building of penises idea.

There are penises here for everyone. Small penises for snoozing on, flat penises for picnicking on and laughing penises for pointing at.

I know what you’re thinking – so many penis structures, so little time. Nevermind, entry into the park costs around $3 so you can come and go as you please.
