These aren’t wrapped gifts at all, they’re hyperrealistic oil paintings

Sweden-based artist Yrjö Edelmann creates incredible art pieces that look like the real thing. In this case, badly wrapped gifts!

Edelmann worked as a comic strip illustrator before he started to paint and was influenced by French surrealism ‘with its irrational, dreamlike motifs, he developed his own pictorial language and also experimented with hyperrealism before becoming increasingly engrossed in his packages, wrapping paper and pieces of string’. Now he creates amazing pieces that look just like wrapped gifts, complete with irregular shapes and sticky tape, as well as tears and wrinkles in the ‘paper’.

We’ve seen plenty of hyperrealistic artwork over the years but this is just… wow.
