Squishing babies’ faces into balls is a thing in Japan

You never disappoint us with your weirdness, Japan. In #RiceBallBabies, a meme that’s become insanely popular in Japan, parents squish their babies’ faces to look like a cute rice ball.

It involves placing your thumbs around your baby’s fluffy cheeks and lightly squeezing, making your child’s face rounder than usual. The trend began back in June when Japanese comedian Masahiro Ehara posted a photo of his baby with the rice ball face. Since then, others have done it to their kids, creating a wave of cuteness all over Twitter.

Oh and if you don’t have a kid, you can do it on yourself or your pets too! Just remember to do it gently so as not to hurt anyone.
