To keep turtles safe in Japan, they’re installing turtle tunnels!

To prevent turtles from being crushed by trains or getting stuck while wandering along train tracks, Japanese companies have been installing… turtle tunnels!

These tunnels pass under the train tracks and keep the turtles safe and everyone else happy because fewer trains are delayed because of… turtles on the tracks (have you heard that one from the conductor before?!).

The new turtle tunnels have been working since April and from then until August, 10 turtles ‘were observed making use of them to leave the tracks’.

If you think this is neat, you should read about the Toad Tunnel. It was a brilliant idea, but uh, poorly executed (where many toads died)… but anyway…
