Nope, your eyes are not deceiving you. These quilts are all made out of wood. Every last part of them. The art technique is known as Trompe l’oeil and artist Fraser Smith is an expert at it.
According to Twisted Sifter, Fraser’s woodwork began as a hobby during his childhood and took off from there. These days the artist uses basswood and creates incredible masterpieces out of large blocks of glued wood, with the finished products sometimes weighing as much as 60 pounds each!
Fraser Smith now works out of his backyard shop. Each wooden quilt takes anywhere from six to eight months to complete — ‘the majority of that time spent sanding and painting‘.
