If Australian currency had more famous people and things on it

While one patriotic Aussie is pushing to rename the currency to ‘Dollarydoos’, another one wants to redesign the bank notes to include more things Australian – you know, like beer and shrimps on the barbee.

In his project ‘Straya Cash’, illustrator Aaron Tyler from Melbourne gives Australia’s bank notes an update by including personalities and things that younger generations can find more familiar. So instead of having Banjo Patterson, Edith Cowan, Sir Henry Pikes, and Dame Nellie Melba, he put in Dame Edna, Karl Stefanovic, Shane Warne, and Steve Irwin. He also included things like thongs, Vegemite, snakes, VB, and pies.

According to Tyler, he came up with the idea at a party where no could recognise the people on the bank notes. So he set out and made a big list of all things Australian, eventually narrowing it down to the current lineup. The intricate patterns took him a year to finish, but as you can see it’s all worth it!

‘I had to design all the patterns/line work from scratch’, he told BuzzFeed. ‘Despite being laborious, it gave me a new appreciation for the design of the originals’.

So what will it be, Australia? Yay or nay for Straya Cash?
