Brisbane is the place to be for some of Australia’s best arts and cultural events during the summer, so if you love film, and you’re in the city for the month of November, you’re in luck. The Asia Pacific Screen Awards are the region’s highest accolade in film and they are coming to your backyard!
Broadcast from the historic Brisbane City Hall, the Asia Pacific Screen Awards is a glitzy ceremony that celebrates Asia Pacific filmmaking and the people behind the scenes making those movies. When you think of Asia Pacific, you might think of a few countries. But it’s actually a term that covers one-third of the Earth, with 70 countries and areas included, from Russia in the north to New Zealand in the south.
This massive area is home to 4.5 billion people and produces half of the world’s film, so the Asia Pacific Screen Awards are a seriously big deal.
You won’t want to miss this event because it’s a chance to find out who’s who in the movie business, as well as discovering some awesome films that will eventually go on to win even more acclaim in other parts of the world.
Films at the APSAs are all judged on cinematic excellence and the way in which they attest to their cultural origins, with last year’s winners including Emile Sherman for Outstanding Achievement in Film and Leviafan taking home the Best Feature Film prize.
