When Nassau, Bahamas resident Rosie Kemp found an injured and abandoned baby raccoon in her yard last year, she decided to adopt it and raise it alongside her two dogs. Now the little critter is doing well and thinks she’s a dog too!
With her daughter Lauren Young, Kemp named the raccoon ‘Pumpkin’ and helped her heal a leg injury, which resulted from a bad fall from a tree. Abandoned by her mum, Pumpkin instead received love and support from her new family, which includes her two new dog pals, Toffee and Oreo.
‘Raising her was (and still is) a full-time job’, Young told The Dodo. ‘They are so unbelievably intelligent, very aware, and I would say they are even able to express emotions’.
‘She instantly bonded with us and our two rescue dogs and follows me and our two dogs everywhere we go. She now thinks she is a dog … she is able to play and be rough with them and she respects them when they have had enough’.
You can see more of Pumpkin over on Instagram, where she’s usually seen chilling with Toffee and Oreo, or eating treats, or digging in the garbage reading story books.
