Music lovers, you can finally see just how your favourite record is played thanks to a microscopic image that shows what a record’s groove looks like under 1000x magnification.
The needle is vibrated by the grooves in the vinyl, which then moves magnets placed near a coil. The coil then generates electricity, which gets amplified into an audio signal.

To further explain the process, vinyl lover Ben Krasnow created a stop-motion video of the needle moving through a record’s grooves and explains how he uses an electron microscope to image the record. It’s incredibly fascinating!
