There’s a massive five-storey snail house in Bulgaria… because why not?

Travel to Bulgaria’s capital of Sofia and take in the glorious views of the stunning architecture this city has to offer. And then do a double take when you see the Snail House. Yes, a house that looks like a giant (and somewhat sad) snail.

The Snail House was designed by local architect Simeon Simeonov and painted all colours of the rainbow so it would stand out in the neighbourhood… because building a house shaped like a snail wasn’t enough? The five-storey building took around 10 years to complete (you could say it went at a – wait for it – snail’s pace!) and opened its doors to the public in 2009.

Believe it or not, this house has become a bit of an icon in Sofia and is now a major tourist attraction.
