Who dares sit on a chair with a cactus at the bottom?

Pushing the limits of everyday design, innovative designers Vedat Ulgen and Deger Cengiz have come up with a rather, uh, prickly furniture piece that puts a 10-inch barrel cactus at the bottom. Let’s hope that building material is thick. And designed to stay in place!

The chair is meant to be ‘an experimentation to investigate the effect of visual data to the user’s experience. The existence of the Barrel Cactus gives a temporary discomfort, even though the user knows that the cactus behind the glass is not a real threat’. Well, if you’ve ever fallen in a pit of cactuses by the side of the road, sitting on top of one – though shielded by acrylic – might still be threatening. And real, very real. Cactus trauma is a thing, people.
