Close up photos of marijuana buds give us a new perspective on the plant

So you thought all marijuana buds were the same. A bit light green, a bit dark green, and sometimes a little bit ashy on the sides. But seeing as there’s so many varieties of cannabis, there’s bound to be many different looks to each bud. Erik Christiansen has been photographing marijuana since 2009 and shows us the very subtle differences – and the beauty – of this somewhat controversial plant.

He began photographing the buds because ‘the photos out at the time didn’t really depict what I thought was the true essence of the bud’. And to get the shots as perfect as he can, he takes between 25 to 40 macro shots of each bud, then stacks them on top of the other using a computer program.

Believe it or not, there’s a lot of interest in the way buds look. Christiansen has even released a book showing off these colourful buds, each with its own distinct look and feel.
