Wayne Adams and Catherine King are the proud owners and operators of Freedom Cove, an amazing home that floats on 12 platforms filled with living spaces and greenhouses, all interconnected via a wooden pathway. It’s located in Canada, about half an hour by boat off the coast of Tofino, British Columbia.
The way Wayne, Catherine and their two children live are completely self-sustainable. Rainwater is collected for drinking during the winter months and in summer, fresh water from a waterfall across the bay ensure a constant supply. Electricity is supplied through solar panels and photovoltaic energy generators. And their greenhouses produce enough fruit and vegetables all year round. In fact, this eco-lifestyle has been sustaining the Adams family for the past 20 years.
The couple are well-respected artists in their community and they make and sell carvings and candles that can be found in gift shops across Tofino. They also welcome visitors and love to share what they have learned during their two decades of self-sufficiency.
