Stay at Hotel Hotel in Australia’s capital for some serious R&R

Hotel Hotel is one of the many great reasons to visit Australia’s capital. And after spending lots of time between Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra (with the help of Hotel Hotel) this hotel seems to be the coming-of-age destination for hipsters everywhere!

Hotel Hotel is in the up and coming precinct of New Acton, located on the north side of Canberra’s West Basin. This is the hub of a newly established district that is home to some of the city’s most talked-about shops and entertainment venues, including A Baker (check it out for the capital’s best rye), Goodspeed Bicycle (fit for the hipsters of Shoreditch, Williamsburg or Collingwood) and the newest Palace Cinemas.

As designer hotels go, a warm welcome from concierge and a tour around the room is standard, but at Hotel Hotel you’ll get this as well as treats to find all around your suite. Aesop bathroom essentials, locally sourced organic and fair trade certified chocolate from Canberra-based company Little Monster Chocolate, daily fresh ground coffee, and tote bags designed by nearby artists are just some of the goodies you’ll be spoiled with. The rooms here make it seem like an Easter egg hunt for adults.

Each room is also designed by local makers and artists, meaning that every stay offers guests a different experience.

That said, the rooms are just the start of this treasure trove of a hotel, with extras including a library stocked with design books from Melbourne publisher Perimeter Books as well as fresh copies of the weekly paper.

If you feel the need to leave Hotel Hotel – which proves challenging given the in-house restaurant, Monster Kitchen, (one of Canberra’s hippest eateries), you can explore the city with a complimentary bicycle on offer from Goodspeed. A ride round the lake and a walk around the Turrell exhibition at the National Art gallery will no doubt leave you with a dry mouth and appetite, so pop on over to Monster Kitchen, or nearby foodie haunt Mocan & Green Grout for some delicious grub.

Then, finish the day off with a live drawing class… arranged by the hotel obviously.
