Veinviewer: A device that helps doctors aim their needles by projecting your veins on skin

Don’t you hate it when doctors have to stick you with a needle? Don’t you hate it even more when they need to re-stick you because they missed? Well, hate no more. Introducing the VeinViewer, a neat gadget that allows medical personnel to accurately place your IV, eliminating the chances of having to do re-sticks.

VeinViewer shines a near-infrared light on the patient’s skin. The light either gets absorbed by the patient’s blood or gets reflected by their skin, producing an image of what’s underneath. The system can see as deep as 15mm worth of veins and blood patterns in real time.

Developed by Memphis-based Christie Medical Holdings, VeinViewer makes life easier for those allergic to needles – which is basically all of us.

No more hard-to-find veins, no more re-sticks. Watch the video below to see how it works.
