These resilient kids from Yunnan attend school at sub zero tempertures, with icicles in their hair

As temperatures plummet to minus 5 celsius, these plucky children of Yunnan Province in China walk for two hours to get to school daily. Many do not own scarves and headwear and so they arrive at school with hair that is literally frozen. Zhang Jingfu, the headmaster of their school, took these pictures of the students to raise awareness about their plight during the freezing months.

‘As the indoor temperature is higher, the ice on the children’s shoes melt and their shoes get wet. They study sitting in puddles of water,’ said Zhang.

A charity campaign to collect winter clothes and financial aid has been launched, with netizens expressing grave concern and donating clothes and money. Soldier on, children!
