I lost my suitcase once. After three days of airline staff telling me it was lost for good, it was delivered to me at 3am by a cranky New Yorker. Some people aren’t that lucky. A small fraction of lost luggage gets lost forever and ends up at the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro, Alabama. This is the place that buys unclaimed luggage by the tractor-trailer load and sells it on a retail floor for shoppers to score big bargains.
There are 7,000 new items placed in the 40,000-square-foot store daily, and all clothing is professionally cleaned, while electronics are thoroughly tested (with personal data erased). Some of the most wackiest finds at the store include moose antlers, vacuum-packed frogs, a 19th century suit of armor replica, and a shrunken head.
Why pay full price when you can bag other people’s treasured lost goods for bargain basement prices?
