Come second in a sumo contest, win a gigantic macaron

At the Sumo Senshuraku tournament in Japan, coming first is an incredible feat. You win fame, you win glory. But come runner up and you’ll be gifted a giant, green macaron. No, really! This very quirky prize is part of the France-Japan Friendship Cup and is custom-made by the famous French patisserie Pierre Herme.

The ‘Big Macaron’, as it’s called, has been given out once before, and the trend is expected to continue. I mean, why wouldn’t it? Who wouldn’t want to win a gigantic dessert for their sumo efforts? Considering some sumo wrestlers take in about 10,000 calories, this giant macaron looks perfect way to finish a meal.
