Bone Dusters Paleo Ale, a brew made from a 35-million-year-old whale fossil

This will separate the occasional beer drinkers from the beer enthusiasts! Bone Dusters Paleo Ale is a beer – wait for it! – that’s brewed from a 35-million-year-old whale fossil. It comes from the co-founder of Paleo Quest, Jason Osborne, who ‘hit upon the idea of a craft beer to get people interested in science’. Collaborating with brewing scientist Jasper Akerboom from the Lost Rhino Brewing Company, they discovered ‘a new strain of wild yeast’ that is ‘commonly used by breweries and wineries worldwide’. Sounds delish!

Just 650 gallons is being produced initially but if you’ve always wanted to sample a beer with notes of prehistoric whale, you may be in luck – the company hopes ‘to offer it through distributors and supply scientific meetings too’.
