Could glowing bacteria light up future homes?

There’s a zone where science and design meet, and this collaboration between visual artist John Nicholson and microbiologist Kathy Takayama is it. Basically, they experimented with using bioluminescent bacteria to emit light from oxidation, and the prototypes were exhibited at Canberra Contemporary Art Space in 2004. Amazing how ahead of the times they were. We look forward to the time when we can light up our homes with bacteria.
