If you’re a fan of semi-naked girls beating on zombies and giant robots (and let’s face it, who isn’t?) then the Australian illustrator/artist Ashley Wood may be just what your life is missing. Starting out in comics and quickly moving on to publishing his own sumptuous art books, prints and collectable toys, Wood now has a legion of adoring fans worldwide, eager to snap up anything coming out of his 3A/Bambaland studios. I met Jesse Gentry a few years ago on the set of a short film about zombies, cowboys and robots from space. The dude has a weird style that is nothing short of macabre. Lately, I have been very impressed with his photographs. They involve small-scale models and figurines that he builds in his apartment using random objects you would find in dumpsters and utility closets. The result is similar to something out of the mind of Jan Svankmajer, the director of the Czechoslovak film Alice.

Yup, only in Baltimore. This creative hotspot is now home to the oddest short course race on the planet: ‘Run For Your Lives is an apocalyptic 5K obstacle race. But you’re not just running against the clock. You’re running from brain-hungry, virus-spreading, bloody zombies’. And if that isn’t enough, at the end of it all, there’s a full-on celebration, ‘or zombie transformation’, as they put it, with live music, food, and beer. It all takes place on October 22.

If the zombie apocalypse looks anything like Max Kauffman’s artwork, we have nothing to fear because there will be cute zombie birds. Also, zombies in Kauffman’s universe prefer Eskimo kisses to brains.
