LuLu encourages women to objectify men. This “girls only” app let’s women anonymously gossip about the men in their lives. Girls can sign up and then begin rating guys they know via Facebook. It’s a third space for women to comment on men and stalk their profiles hardcore. It’s a place to keep up with ex’s, stay up to date on current crushes, and see who’s hot on the market by checking which guy’s profiles get the most favorites.

Ladies can even ask and answer poll questions about specific guys to gage what the other girls have to say about a dude’s ambition, kissing skills, or whatever other burning questions they have. And did I mention the killer hashtags flying around on that app? #Big Feet, #One Woman Man, #Obsessed With His Mom, #Napoleon Complex and more. Come on ladies, do you really have nothing better to do?

Australian illustrator James Jirat Patradoon is not one to shy away from the spotlight. Gaining the attention of stars such as Nacho Pop and Kanye West with his sci fi/gangster rap/wrestling superhero/black metal creations, Patradoon has clients ranging from Grill’d to Adidas. Now he has teamed up with the new health company, Fierce for Life.

Patradoon met Lau (the founder of Fierce for Life) through Rob Hanly, who would in time become Lau’s husband and strategic adviser. Lau’s vision was to create a health company that changed women into stronger, sexier, and more confident versions of themselves. ‘It’s about giving women what they want.” notes Lau. ‘Not some anorexic role model or a double cheeseburger with the lot. They want to become fierce and independent – and there has been no approach to health, fitness and lifestyle that has done this for them properly’. Taking all of this into account, Patradoon created a character – someone to capture desired independence, someone to identify with, and someone to aspire to be. It’s a little bit comic book, but it’s lots of real life. Lau’s husband Rob also kindly chalked up the streets of Surry Hills for our recent Lost At E Minor Sydney party.

To commemorate the centenary of International Women’s Day, Australian filmmaker Phoebe Hartley has launched an online documentary series celebrating extraordinary women. EXTRAORDINARY consists of eight projected episodes, with the pilot live now on a dedicated website, and the remainder to be uploaded regularly in the coming months. The videos profile women from a broad range of backgrounds, each one a cinematic snapshot of the contemporary female experience.

Episode one introduces a young woman whose Parkour training enables her to deftly scale walls. Other subjects include a punk photographer, and a choreographer who teaches young refugees to dance. In line with the symbolism of International Women’s Day, the diminutive documentaries, at under five minutes each, aim to recognise, celebrate and inspire women. Directed by Phoebe Hartley and produced by Brendan Lee.

Two words: Roller Derby! I got involved in the resurgence of modern Roller Derby about five years ago, as a fan and volunteer, and it has since taken over my life. I love it. Gone are the days of staged matches: it’s evolved into a real sport with explosive growth across America and is catching on in other parts of the world now. Proof positive? The new Yokasuka Sushi Rollers are just getting organized on a military base in Japan. Yes, the past is catching up with us. On roller skates.
