Turkish-born, New York-based artist Deniz Ozuygur’s hilarious pieces tell sophisticated jokes that also, via crude, distorted, and disembodied forms, tap into a more innocent and tactile relationship we had with our bodies in grade school. Her Self High Five Machine is hysterical, as is her Alterations series, in which she messes with common kids’ items — Gummi Worms, Funyuns, a gum eraser — before repackaging them and returning them to the manufacturer. WE'RE THINKING

Here’s a meme blog I can roll with cuz I loves me some meat, although I can’t eat wheat, so half of these dishes won’t be on my menu.

I spent the formative first six years of my life in Wellington, New Zealand, a beautiful windswept city framed by a magnificent harbour in one direction and a stunning collection of green, rolling hills in the other. It was here, on a return visit many years later and deep amongst the clipped accents and ruddy faces of the weather-beaten locals, that I stumbled upon the vast catalogue of the then Dunedin based record label Flying Nun. And what a roster of acts they housed — The Chills, The Bats, The Clean, Tall Dwarfs, The Verlaines, and my favourite guitar-pop band, Straitjacket Fits. Read more

Australia’s largest private museum will soon have some super futuristic and luxurious accommodations for guests. These awesome structures, designed by Nonda Katsilidis, definitely aim to reflect the art housed in the museum with their hyper modernist look.

Let them sing it for you is a web widget that allows you to type in a sentence which is then played back using the same words culled from a library of popular songs. For instance if you type the word “I” it will play Chris Isaak singing that word in the song Wicked Games. If a word cannot be found, you can enter a song which contains the missing word and expand the library.

Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs are primarily remembered for the song Wooly Bully, but I’ve been incessantly listening to Little Red Riding Hood. As a metalhead, any song that features howling makes me happy.

WE'RE WEARING

If only we could swap out every ubiquitous North Face jacket that sits tight on the weather-beaten frames of far too many Manhattanites for one of these wonderful creations by Japanese artist, Kosuke Tsumura. The city would be that much more of an interesting place. Called Final Home, this parka has 44 zippered pockets and is part of Tsumura’s collection of ‘post-apocalyptic streetwear’, designed as a respite — and insulation — from the stresses of modern urban living.
