WE'RE SUPPORTING

This beautiful necklace was handmade in Italy by Anna Lodi, who designed each original necklace from original Italian sheet music. She has adopted a paper-mache technique to create each bead, which is encapsulated by transparent glass-based resin.

WE'RE THINKING

I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the crystal craze. Crystals, like triangles, are ubiquitous these days as visual shorthand for something vaguely mystical. I love these Scilia rings from Five and Two because, rather than evoking the nurturing qualities of Mother Earth, they seem to have tumbled out of an acid nightmare future where everything is synthetic. Sparks’ album Kimono My House is a demented mix of hard rock, pop, glam, new wave, and baroque pop. Why this record never caught on in the States I’ll never know. The songs will get stuck in your head and prevent you from sleeping. Oh yeah, and the keyboard player has a nice mustache too, as evidenced by this track above — This Town Ain’t Big Enough.

WE'RE TRAVELLING TO

The Dutch, the beautiful Dutch, in terms of architecture anyway. Here they have led the way again with this reuse of an old crane dock. A new glass office building, with a climatic façade of double glazing, motorized louvers on the outside and full length windows on the inside, hovers above the old dock. Read more

The Boston Globe has posted some pretty phenomenal pictures taken from the space shuttle Discovery during its recent mission. It’s almost impossible to imagine that one day views like these could become mundane. Read more

WE'RE LISTENING TO

I’ve seen free-jazz spazz outfit Microkingdom many times in their hometown of Baltimore, but their recent gig opening for Skull Defekts was really tight. I found myself head banging to jazz! That hasn’t happened in a while.
