Andy Warhol epitomizes repetition with organic variation in visual art, which I love in music, like the Philip Glass composition backing the above video. Upon finding out about the album covers he had created, I realized I could pay tribute to his work with my Vinyl Art. Photos he took inspired my paintings on albums whose covers he’d designed.
Now this is incredible! Designer Michael Hansen has developed this remarkable double-sided vinyl record with beautiful, intricate designs on it that act like a stop-motion animation as the vinyl spins on the player. As our friends at Design Boom have noted: ‘Both the album cover and the surface of the vinyl are designed specifically for the song recorded on that side. The images on the record itself (a 33 1/3 RPM) create moving animations when played on a turntable and lit with a strobelight at 50 to 60 Hz’. Best thing we’ve seen all year.
