I didn’t think I’d ever see these again, but thanks to the good people at Stokyo, the Sound Wagon (aka Vinyl Killer) is reborn. You might have seen these back in the 70s (if you’re old enough) or most probably in the 90s on those old ISP videos, but in case you’re unfamiliar, this little van is actually the world’s smallest portable record player. The uber-hip French producer M83 has compiled a Secret Playlist for us in which he props Brian Eno, Julee Cruise, and Tears For Fears’ Head Over Heels: ‘This song was the biggest influence for my new album. NASA has released some pretty amazing audio recordings of sounds from the moons of Saturn. The weirdest thing about them is that they actually sound like Theremin warbles and echoey whooshy sounds from ‘50s movies about space.
Yellow Bird Project, a Montreal-based organization, has teamed up with indie rock bands to raise money for charities. The rock bands, including big indie rockers like The National and The Shins, design their own tee-shirt and choose the charities that will benefit from the sales. What a great way to support a band you love and a worthy cause. Read more
